PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) TREATMENT

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) TREATMENT

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is turning into a well-known procedure in the field of regenerative medicine. Therapeutic range of PRP is required for tissue regeneration as it contains various growth factors, in which may stimulate granulation and accelerate epithelisation, revascularisation, collagen production and repair. It is safe and efficient due to the autologous nature of the PRP.

Why Do Platelets Rejuvenate Skin?

Platelets are cells in the blood that contain various growth factors which are secured by alpha granules. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin act as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue, and thus smoothen and tighten the skin. In this way, PRP softens wrinkles and creating a smoother skin texture and tone.

How is the procedure performed?

  1. A single treatment takes about 1.5hours and you can immediately return to your daily activity.
  2. Application of numb cream (EMLA) over treatment area to reduce discomfort during treatment.
  3. Withdraw small amount of blood.
  4. Separation of blood components by centrifugation.
  5. Injection of PRP into treatment area.

What is the downtime?

Some minimal swelling and bruising may be experienced for 5-7 days following treatment. The risk is minimal as your own plasma is used for this treatment.

How many sessions does a patient generally need?

It depends on the condition of the skin but usually, 4-6 treatments are recommended with a month gap between each treatment.
