Date : 1-3 March 2024

Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Edmond Ng Siah Chye

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Edmond Ng has shared his knowledge and expertise in the usage of Exosome in the field of aesthetic medicine. The Australasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists (ASCD) was held on the 1st-3rd March 2024 at the Crown Conference Centre, Melbourne.

Both external and internal factors may lead to changes in skin characteristics and appearance. Cell-free exosomes have attracted much attention due to their role as intercellular mediators and their potential to carry and deliver drugs, growth factors, and active compounds to the skin. The presentation focused on the potential applications of exosomes in skin and hair growth in aesthetic applications.

The available evidence on the effectiveness of exosome-based therapy to repair, regenerate, and rejuvenate skin tissue has also been discussed. Exosomes can move safely in extracellular fluids and act as natural delivery cargo to designated cells with great selectivity and efficiency, enhancing skin hydration, removing or reducing pigmentation, and reducing wrinkles and volume loss are the potential applications of exosomes in skin care. There are numerous studies that demonstrate the benefits of exosome therapeutics for hair loss treatment as well. Exosomes are on the horizon as an exciting therapeutic in regenerative medicine.
